Karijini National Park

Karijini National Park Western Australia is perhaps the most breathtaking park in the State of Western Australia. It is centred amid the Hamersley Range, which is found in the Pilbara region of the northwestern portion of Western Australia. The park encompasses 6274 square kilometers. It is the second largest among the national parks in Western Australia, surpassed only by Rudall River National Park.

Karijini National Park Western Australia is known for its spectacular beauty and adventure. With its gigantic gorges and dramatic waterfalls, breathtaking views abound. Walk trails are available at every level from beginner to challenging. Water holes and rock pools offer wonderful places to swim and cool off.

The park contains picnic areas and camping sites for visitors, subject to fees. The new Karijini Visitor Centre provides information on the park and its natural and cultural history, as well as souvenirs and refreshments.

Many fascinating animals can be viewed in Karijini National Park Western Australia. They include red kangaroos, geckos, echidnas, euros, wallaroos, legless lizards, goannas, bats, pythons, and many other creatures.

Explorer F.T. Gregory first surveyed the area of the park in 1861. The Hamersley Range was named after Gregory's friend Edward Hamersley. Like the rest of the Pilbara region, the area has a primarily tropical and semi-arid climate. Thunderstorms as well as cyclones are frequent occurrences in the summer. Summer day temperatures are often over 40 degrees Celsius, but in the winter temperatures can drop below freezing overnight.

Karijini National Park Western Australia is best reached by joining a four wheel drive tour in Perth, approximately 1055 kilometers away. Additional tours are available from the cities of Exmouth, Karratha, and Broome. It is also possible to hire a vehicle for oneself to drive to the park.
