Multi-day Pilbara sample (Karijini + region)
4–7+ days (sample structure) · Best for: Self-drivers combining Karijini with Tom Price hub time and broader Pilbara travel
Guide updated · verify Explore Parks WA / DBCA the morning you go
A realistic sample: arrive and resupply Tom Price, two–three nights Karijini (Dales and/or Eco Retreat), east swim + west lookouts/Handrail, optional advanced or Hamersley day, then onward regional buffer — without packing every icon into one cooked afternoon.

Karijini rewards multi-day pacing. The Pilbara distances, heat and unsealed roads punish maximalist checklists. This sample is a spine you can stretch, not a fixed bus tour.
Book park stays early for June–September. Verify all roads, fees and track status with Explore Parks WA / DBCA. Closed asbestos areas (Wittenoom/Yampire) are never on the itinerary.
Optional regional pairing (mining lookouts, other parks, coast later) only with fresh energy — not as a substitute for recovery after Hancock.
Track status and weather change — verify on Explore Parks WA / DBCA before you leave, then follow the timeline below.
Timeline
Day 0–1
Arrive Pilbara · Tom Price reset
Fly into Paraburdoo/Newman or complete the long Perth drive. Fuel, water containers, food, sleep. Do not force a gorge descent the hour you arrive exhausted. Confirm park bookings and weather.
Day 2
Enter park · classic Dales swim day
Dales Campground check-in if booked, or day visit from Tom Price/Eco. Fortescue + Fern in cool hours. Heat buffer. Early night under stars or at Eco Retreat if western base.
Day 3
Western lookouts + optional Handrail
Oxers + Knox essential. Handrail only if intermediate green lights. Recovery afternoon. Photographers may reverse to prioritise golden hour rims.
Day 4
Choice day: Hancock / Hamersley / rest
Advanced only: Hancock to Kermits with full warnings. Or Hamersley + Kalamina colour day. Or total rest/Tom Price laundry and resupply. One path only.
Day 5+
Buffer, Mount Bruce only if cool/advanced, or depart region
Optional Mount Bruce Honey Hakea solely in cool weather for advanced walkers. Otherwise use buffer for weather reshuffles or start the next Pilbara/WA leg without a sleep-debt departure.
