Easy lookouts + gentle swim day
Flexible half to full day (heat-paced) · Best for: Lower mobility, families, first confidence days, anyone skipping Class 4/5
Guide updated · verify Explore Parks WA / DBCA the morning you go
Oxers and Knox lookouts for maximum drama per step, plus an optional gentler swim focus (Kalamina or careful Dales/Hamersley depending on ability) — meaningful Karijini without ladders or Spider Walks.

Karijini is still extraordinary if you never touch Handrail or Hancock. This plan prioritises rim viewpoints and, if suitable, a moderate swim gorge chosen for the group’s real ability — not Instagram’s.
Confirm surfaces and grades on the day with Explore Parks WA / DBCA and on-site signs. Short lookout paths can still have edges, heat and uneven ground.
Promise colour, scale and water — not step-count trophies. Abort freely.
Track status and weather change — verify on Explore Parks WA / DBCA before you leave, then follow the timeline below.
Timeline
07:30–08:00
Depart after real breakfast
Water for every person. Sunscreen on. Agree the abort phrase: anyone can call rest without debate. Check weather — rain means lookouts only, no gorge floors.
08:30–10:30
Oxers Lookout + Knox Lookout
Short walks, huge views. Stay behind barriers; supervise children at edges. Sit, look, photograph. This block alone is a successful Karijini morning.
10:30–14:00
Shade · lunch · heat buffer
Return to Eco Retreat, camp or Tom Price AC if heat is severe. Do not force a swim in peak heat. Naps beat meltdowns.
15:00–17:30
Optional gentle swim OR second easy viewpoint
If the group is fresh and conditions kind: Kalamina introduction or a moderated Fortescue/Fern attempt only as far as comfort allows. Otherwise Joffre lookout context or simply rest. Climb-out honesty required for any descent.

Parking & access tips
- Use signed lookout and recreation parks; early for shade proximity.
- Keep walks from car to viewpoint short — plan drop-off help within road rules if needed.
Skip if short on time / energy
- Hancock Spider Walk
- Handrail if anyone is fearful or mobility-limited
- Mount Bruce
- Any plan that forbids turning around
Extra tips
With children
- Edges and water need continuous adult attention.
- Dingoes at Dales: never feed; secure food.
- One good swim section beats three rushed stops.
Mobility honesty
- Verify surfaces on the day — blogs are not access audits.
- Lookouts-only remains a high-value respectful day.
- Hamersley/Kalamina may suit better than Weano slots for some groups — choose live.
